Update on moi

Well so much for keeping this blog updated. ;o(

I had a health issue that’s totally resolved and I’m feeling great and can eat stuff I couldn’t eat before.  Feels like Christmas, your birthday and the first time you lay eyes on your brand new book cover all rolled into one.

I had my gall bladder removed.  Everyone was telling me two days and you’re about back to normal.  Not.  Not on your life.  It’s been a little over 2 weeks and I still feel it but I’m so much better.  I had my first french fry the other day (Mickey D’s best) and I thought I had died and gone to heaven.  Had 4 of those bad boys a few days later and NOTHING HAPPENED.  No pain.  No backache.  It is a miracle.

So I’m back, not that I’ve left but I will be updating the blog soon.  Hope everyone is well and are going to have the best Memorial Day weekend ever!

Christian Fiction Author Linda J. White on Seeds of Evidence Virtual Book Tour in May!

Linda J. White, author of the Christian fiction, Seeds of Evidence, will be on virtual book tour May 6 – 31 2013!

By day, Linda J. White writes editorials for The Free Lance-Star, a newspaper in Fredericksburg, VA. By night, she plays the “what-if?” game, entangling engaging characters in “white-knuckle” plots. Her first FBI thriller, “Bloody Point,” was published in 2005. “Seeds of Evidence” (Abingdon Press) will be released in April 2013. Linda’s husband, Larry, was a video producer/director at the FBI Academy for over 27 years. Married since 1970, they have three grown children and now live with two dogs and two cats on two beautiful, wooded acres in Virginia.

About her book:

Stressed-out FBI Special Agent Kit McGovern returns to her grandmother’s Chincoteague Island home in search of peace. But when a little boy’s body washes up on the beach, Kit cannot resist throwing herself into the mystery of his murder. Her only clues: the tomato seeds in the Latino boy’s gut, and the acorns in his pockets.

The medical examiner points out that the volume of tomato seeds in the boy’s gut could indicate he was from a farm worker’s family. But the acorns? Kit discovers they’re from a Virginia live oak, not native to the area where the boy was found. Can she use those to identify his origins anyway? And why hasn’t anyone reported him missing?

Kit meets David O’Connor, a D.C. homicide detective in Chincoteague recovering from a shooting incident. She makes it clear she’s not interested in a relationship, but their passion for justice is mutual and they soon forge a partnership to find the boy’s murderer. As plant DNA evidence leads them straight into the dark world of human trafficking, Kit and David wrestle with the depths of human evil, with questions of faith, and with possibilities for hope. “Seeds of Evidence” takes readers on a white-knuckle ride they won’t soon forget.

About his book:

Bestselling witchcraft author Trish Sinclair has a shameful secret: she’s a lousy spellcaster, and the spells in her books belong to others. So when a dying warlock entrusts her with an ancient and powerful grimoire, she runs for her life from his murderer, psychotic witch Kate Cavanaugh. Kate pursues Trish relentlessly to obtain the grimoire, which holds spells to command the fearsome power of a magic crystal hidden in town—and Kate is determined to have that power.

When the town coven refuses to help Trish protect the grimoire, she is forced to turn to cynical warlock Aidan McCarthy, who has a secret agenda of his own, and Rain Devereaux, a novice witch whose spellcasting abilities are even worse than Trish’s.  As Kate unleashes the elemental might of tornados and ice storms on the trio, they desperately struggle to defeat her.

But Kate is too powerful, and she manages to steal the grimoire and unearth the crystal. Trish knows Kate will use the stone’s power to exact her deadly revenge on Aidan and the town coven unless Trish can manifest her latent magical abilities to save them.

When a Self-Published Author Has a No. 1 Best-Selling Book

It’s finally happened: A self-published ebook has hit the No. 1 spot on the Digital Book World Ebook Best-Seller list. A few have hung around in the top-five, some reaching even No. 2, but this is the first to hold that top spot, following in the footsteps of Fifty Shades of Grey, Gone Girls and other titles from huge publishing houses.  The author to be congratulated is Jennifer L. Armentrout, writing under the pen name J.Lynn. The title is What you Want and was available last week for $0.99 but is now selling for $2.99. Armentrout is what we’re now calling a “hybrid author,” or someone who has both self-published and published traditionally.

Read rest of article at Forbes.

Very very encouraging for the self-published author which I’m a big advocate of.  I had heard the term “hybrid author” before and now I have a better understanding of the word.  It’s part of that “don’t put all your eggs in one  basket thing” your grandmother used to say, don’t you think?  No matter if one thing looks good, don’t hold back grabbing the second good thing even if there’s juggling involved.  If you want to make a decent living, grab as many opportunities that come your way as you can.

Why Wal-Mart Dropped Amazon’s Kindle

Wal-Mart will no longer be carrying Amazon’s popular Kindle e-reading and tablet devices. Wal-Mart said it was a move consistent with its merchandising strategy, but I think there’s a lot more to it.

Wal-Mart doesn’t want to sell Kindles — especially the Kindle Fire tablets — because doing so will help Amazon.com build its overall retail business, which is in direct competition with Wal-Mart, especially its growing e-commerce operation.

ABOUT TERMINUS

How far must an angel fall to find his destiny?

Having witnessed one too many senseless deaths, Nikolai, a disillusioned Reaper 3rd Class, resigns his commission with the Angel Forces after a tedious century of gathering souls.

Immediately, another division recruits him with the promise of a more rewarding career, and issues his initial assignments: To bring down a few very dangerous threats to the human race.  In the process, Nikolai falls in love with one of his targets—Hope Matheson, a woman who will lead thousands astray.

Caught between conflicting agendas, Nikolai chooses to “fall” from his celestial state and become mortal in order to circumvent angel law and be with her.  But for angels and humans alike, things are not always as they appear.  Still a target, the threat against Hope’s life intensifies.

Now, in order to save her, Nikolai must rally the last remnants of his failing supernatural abilities to prevent her assassination, as well as the destruction of an entire city by a nuclear terrorist strike.

But his time and power are running out…

Terminus is a perspective-altering saga that delves into ageless themes of redemption, destiny, and the eternal power of love.

Always nice to get a mention

Happy Sunday everyone!  The sun is finally out, two days in a row!  I had a horrifying experience on the causeway a few days ago.  The winter system Saturn was making it’s way up north but decided to throw a few winds and high tides our way and I found myself in the middle of the worse when I was almost stranded on the causeway which connects our tiny island to the rest of the world.  Talk about scared. I’m still not over it.  The ocean to the left hand side of the road was meeting the ocean on the right hand side of the road if that tells you anything.  One lane was all under water and there was debris all over it with a plow thing pushing stuff off to the side so the cars on the other lane could get off the island.  Me?  I’m in the lane going to the island and praying every step of the way.

Just when I saw the sign 40 mph I knew I was on the “new bridge” as we locals call it and I was home free.  Not.  I get to the intersection (straight goes to the beach road, left goes to a residential section and right goes through town and home) and there’s a foot of water in the intersection (I am not exaggerating).  So I have a choice, go through the intersection onto beach road where I see up ahead it only has a couple of inches there or turn right to go home and go through even more foot deep water and God knows what else because I can’t see that far.  I chose to go ahead.  I made it, then parked at the drug store (high land) until I could figure out what to do.  I called home to tell them where I was and I needed help finding a road that would take me home that wasn’t flooded.

To make a long story short, I made it only to find the power out. Not a good day.

But today the sun is shining and it looks like the system is completely gone for us anyway.  We did have a boat capsize somewhere out there, they saved one man and the other two are missing and I haven’t heard anything else.

When you live on an island, you either roll with the punches or you leave.  I’m not sure at this point whether I want to stay or not, but anyway….

Today I got a mention on Fred Gleeck’s website!  The link is http://www.fredgleeck.com/blog/what-is-a-virtual-book-tour.  He had found my old website and quoted me about virtual book tours.  I’ve debated whether to take that site down since we have a new one (www.pumpupyourbook.com).  But this is the reason why it’s still up there.  I had optimized that site so well when I built it, I’m still getting inquiries from there and also people are quoting me and that’s always good to read.  So for now it stays but I’m sure it confuses a lot of people.

I hope you all have had a great weekend and keep pumping up those books!

Pump Up Your Book announces health/fitness Author Robert F. Henry on blog tour April 1 – May 31

Robert F. Henry will be touring April 1 – May 31 with his health & fitness book, Age Re-Defined.  If you would like to host this author, click here!

About the Book:

Your state of health, how you feel, and how you look are more within your control than you think – even in your forties and fifties (and beyond). This book addresses exercise, fitness, nutrition, wellness, and the mind-body connection. Its purpose is not to promote a particular exercise program or a particular diet plan – although its coverage of exercise, fitness, and nutrition is extensive – but rather to inform, educate, and motivate the reader on the importance of being proactive in one’s own health, fitness, and wellness.

Even if you are already physically active, this book can assist you in evaluating the effectiveness of your current exercise efforts. A foundational background in exercise and fitness concepts is provided. Not only does this book cite to numerous authoritative sources, but it also conveys the author’s own philosophy of exercise and an informative overview of his own exercise and nutrition regimen. The author, who is 56, shares his own motivating journey and the positive results he achieved through exercise, nutrition, and the mind-body connection, with particular emphasis on the challenges faced by him in his early fifties and the favorable results he achieved at that age by “re-booting” his commitment to health and fitness.

The importance of nutrition is explained and heavily stressed. A Registered Dietician with a Master’s Degree in Nutrition is a contributor to the nutrition content. One comes away with an awareness of quality nutrition and its role in optimal health, fitness, and wellness, and with a good working knowledge of the kinds of foods and eating habits which are most beneficial.

As stated in the book’s Introduction: This book is about believing in yourself, maintaining inner strength, and understanding exercise, fitness, nutrition, and wellness. This book is also about getting younger instead of getting older, discovering your inner athlete, and becoming and remaining healthy and fit in both body and mind. This book is for people who have never exercised but who would like to start; for people who would like to know more about good nutrition; for people who exercise but have not seen results; for people whose fitness level has declined and who want to re-ignite their fitness quest; for people who choose to be proactive about their own health, fitness, and wellness; for people interested in the mind-body connection; and for people who reject negative self-talk and self-limiting stereotypes about life after the age of 50. All ages are welcome.

150 pp.

About the Author:

As a Personal Trainer, Fitness Nutrition Coach, and Wellness Coach, he motivates individuals to transform into healthier, fit versions of themselves and to explore the mind-body connection.

As a writer, blogger,  speaker, and media commentator he informs and inspires his audience to commit to a healthy lifestyle by reminding them “you can get better instead of getting older”.

At 52, after years of enjoying good health, Robert was challenged when a visit to the doctor’s office revealed his health profile had changed and he was no longer the emblem of health he had been. That alarm, that wake-up call, that unprecedented need to lose body fat and the doctor’s statement “You’re not getting any younger” ignited something within him.

Robert was challenged for the first time with the need to lose weight and re-boot his commitment to fitness or be at risk for potentially serious health issues.

He refused to accept age alone as the determining factor of his health going forward.

Fitness became such a priority and passion that working out was no longer enough. He began studying and learning as much as his could about fitness, nutrition, and wellness. His appetite for learning led him to earn four certifications: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Certified Personal Trainer from the National Council on Strength and Fitness, Certified Specialist in Fitness Nutrition from the International Sports Sciences Association, and Certified Wellness Coach from Spencer Institute, an affiliate of the National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association. He has also recently taken additional course work in Sport and Exercise Psychology at California State University. To learn more about Robert’s certifications, click here.

His law school education (Juris Doctor, Southern Methodist University) and his experience as an attorney distinguish him with analytical skills, which he now applies to his study and work in health, fitness and wellness. While still in his teens, Robert progressed from Student Pilot to Certified Flight Instructor. Later, he became a professional jet pilot. In the fitness realm, he has been a training client and is now a trainer with multiple fitness certifications. All of this gives him unique perspective as both teacher and student, and as both trainer and client. To Robert, learning is a lifelong process.
